As I’ve felt the fog lift on my mind and spirit lately I’ve been overcome with compassion for those walking through trials. I’m realizing how hard it is to get back to “normal” when you’ve been in survival mode for a while. For me, survival mode means my house is covered in little messes everywhere, and my daily routine is unrecognizable. It means that laundry is piled up, and the to do list is overwhelmingly long. At times I feel like we will never successfully make it out of our current circumstances. It is in this place the Lord has been speaking hope and encouragement to me lately.

Over and over again he speaks to me:

“My yoke is easy, and my burden is light”

Matthew 11:30

He reminds me that the weight and pressure I feel to have it all together is not from Him. He doesn’t expect anything from us but real, vulnerable, unfiltered love and devotion. He desires us to come to Him in our brokenness. He longs to hold us in His arms and comfort us with His words. He hurts when we hurt.

That need you and I feel to be put together and doing all the right things before we approach the Lord is rooted in a lie that we are believing. Its rooted in the lie that God’s love is conditional. When God’s word clearly states in many places that His love is perfect and has nothing to do with anything we do or don’t do.

I’m excited to dive a bit deeper into the different types of trials we face in this life, both real and imagined, self-imposed and unavoidable. So far this year has been a lesson in all of these for me. Over the next few weeks we’ll go into more depth on each type of trial.

But this week what I want more than anything is for you to hear this:

God loves you.

He hears you.

He is with you.

His yoke really is easy

His burden really is light.

What he desires from you ABOVE ALL ELSE is for you to sit at His feet and take refuge in Him.

Friends, be freed from the lies of the enemy today. Dwell on the truth of the Lords perfect and wholly unconditional love for you. Sit in it. Soak it in. Be free.

“So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”

1 John 4:16
